Emerging Global Cities: A Conversation with Dr. Ariel Armony

Registration is now closed.

What makes a city truly global?

How did Dubai, Singapore, and Miami transform to become hubs for business and culture?

And how do they navigate climate change, inequality, and migration?

Leveraging his expertise on what makes a city truly global, Dr. Ariel Armony will be in conversation with Dr. Gabriella Gonzalez of Richard King Mellon Foundation to discuss his new book,  Emerging Global Cities: Origin, Structure, and Significance.

Dr. Ariel Armony is University of Pittsburgh Vice Chancellor of Global Affairs and Director of the University Center for International Studies. His book, co-authored with Dr. Alejandro Portes, traces the transformations of Dubai, Miami, and Singapore to identify the common traits that allow urban places to become “emerging global cities” — centers of commerce, finance, art, and culture for entire regions.
