EITC Program

Businesses can support the Council through Educational Improvement Tax Credits (EITC)!

What is the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program?

The World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh is an Educational Improvement Organization, as designated by the PA Department of Community and Economic Development. Tax credits are awarded to eligible companies and businesses that contribute to qualified educational improvement organizations in Pennsylvania, such as the Council. These tax credits may be applied against the tax liability of a business for the tax year in which the contribution was made.

How much tax credit can a company receive?

Tax credits are equal to 75% of the contribution – up to a maximum of $750,000 per taxable year. This can be increased to 90% of the contribution, if a business agrees to provide the same amount for two consecutive tax years.

What types of businesses are eligible to participate?

Eligible businesses are those authorized to do business in Pennsylvania and who are subject to one or more of the following:

  • Corporate Net Income Tax
  • Capital Stock Franchise Tax
  • Bank and Trust Company Shares Tax
  • Title Insurance Companies Shares Tax
  • Insurance Premiums Tax
  • Mutual Thrift Institution Tax
  • Insurance Company Law of 1921
  • Personal Income Tax of S corporation shareholders or Partnership partners

What types of educational programming at the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh will your EITC funds support?

Our youth programs help young Pittsburghers acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to take action on global issues. We seek to work alongside and amplify the voices of young people to be the leaders of today.

  • Global Minds is a By-Youth For-Youth program created to combat the issues of cultural intolerance and discrimination through a youth-led, after-school program between Emerging Multilingual Learners (EML) and Native English Speaking (NES) students.
  • Our Youth Fellowship and Youth Board programs  offer students opportunities to work in partnership with staff, adult allies throughout the region,  our Board of Directors. These students are co-designers and idea implementers, and provide the Council with continual feedback on our program development and delivery to attract young people and community members.
  • Our Youth Conferences, such as the Emerging Global Leaders Conference and World Affairs Institute, are designed by and created for youth, featuring interactive workshops and in-depth learning sessions to engage students in discussions of key global issues. These programs allow students to engage with and think critically about their world.
  • Our Global Travel Scholars program provides full scholarships for culturally immersive travel abroad experiences to deserving high school student leaders in the region.
